The rise of autonomous service platforms

The first generation of AI products were chat windows. The second are platforms: a catalog of defined deliverables, agents that route and brief the work, and an accounting layer that prices output and reverses failed runs.

What makes a platform rather than a tool

A platform has four parts: a catalog of what it produces, agents that decide which part runs, a ledger that records cost, and recovery when execution fails. Remove any one and the operator is back to managing it manually.

How to evaluate one

Ask what is produced, not what is possible. Ask how failures are refunded. Ask whether pricing is per seat or per deliverable. The answers separate an operating system from a demo.

What comes next

The next shift is depth of recovery and compliance: platforms that can prove what they generated, for whom, and at what cost. Trust, not novelty, becomes the differentiator.
