Why credit-metered AI beats seat-based SaaS

Per-seat pricing made sense when software was a tool people opened. When software produces deliverables, seats become a proxy that misprices both sides: light users overpay, heavy value creators are subsidised, and the vendor is incentivised to add seats rather than outcomes.

Cost becomes a decision variable

A credit price on each run turns software spend into a number you choose per project. You can decide that a market snapshot is worth fifty credits before you run it, which is a very different conversation from adding a third seat to a monthly subscription.

Usage transparency replaces procurement theatre

Ledger-backed credit accounting means every charge has a line: what was run, when, by whom, and what it cost. Failed runs are refunded, so cost only accrues on delivered work. Procurement reviews become short because the evidence already exists.

The incentive alignment

When revenue is tied to completed deliverables, the vendor improves completion rather than retention. That is why credit-metered platforms invest in self-healing runs and refund logic; it is the same mechanism that protects the buyer.
